The Great Flood

The flood extended into our large print and fiction.

We at the South Branch will be excited when our temporary walls are replaced with a more permanent structure, especially when it rains!

Wednesday night’s thunderstorm hit Denton hard. Although most of this area suffered few ill effects from the storm, the South Branch wasn’t so lucky. When the high winds caused our very sturdy temporary walls to buckle, we knew it was time to get everyone into a safe place. We hoped that would be the least of our worries.

Unfortunately, there was more bad news to come. As the storm passed and we felt safe enough to peek outside, we found that we had standing water in our graphic novels and reference section. The program room was also a casualty of the Great South Branch Flood of ’09 (please don’t let me jinx us!) with a wet carpet and a leaky ceiling.

As always, we persevered. We had a great turnout for storytime the next morning, despite half of the room being blocked off, and by now you could say we’re almost dry again.

That is, until the next storm comes along…

FYI: We will reschedule the Twitter program that was cancelled due to the storm. The new date and time will be announced shortly.
