Attention Creative Writers
In celebration of April’s National Poetry Month, the Denton Public Library is having a creative writing contest for ages 13 and up, but it’s not just limited to poems! Library patrons are invited to submit original, unpublished short stories, essays and poems to the Denton Public Library electronically via the library’s website, http://www.dentonlibrary.com. Once on the web site, look for the “Creative Writing Contest” link and it will take you to the entry form, guidelines and submission text box.
“We want people to get creative with this! It’s time for patrons to show off their writing talents, and perhaps discover talents they didn’t know they had. We look forward to highlighting the untapped writers that Denton has to offer,” said Sian Brannon, North Branch Senior Librarian.
The final day to turn in entries is April 15th. Local area writers and poets, who have no connection with the Denton Public Library, will read and judge the entries for the two divisions: Teen and Adult. Teen and Adult winners will be selected in each category (poetry, personal essay, short story); separate winners will be chosen for each Denton Public Library Branch: 18 winners in all! Winners will be featured on an American Library Association READ Poster and displayed in their local branch. In addition, winning works will be published on the library’s new BLOG http://dentonlibrary.wordpress.com and MYSPACE page http://www.myspace.com/dentonlibrary.
A congratulatory party will be held at the North Branch Library to honor the winners in mid-May.
