Homebound Library Services

The Denton Public Library has launched a service which makes library materials available to Denton residents who are unable to visit the library due to illness, disability or lack of transportation.   Homebound Library Service participants can borrow books, DVDs, music CDs and more by mail.  All items come with prepaid postage labels for returns.

“The Denton Public Library is committed to reaching out and finding ways to provide library services to all members of the community,” said Eva Poole, Director of Libraries. “For some Denton residents, visiting our physical locations is not an option. Our Homebound Library Service program gives us the opportunity to mail library materials directly to homebound individuals of all ages whether they live independently or in assisted living facilities.”

To qualify for the service, participants must have a Denton Public Library card and live within the city limits of Denton. Applications to receive library materials by mail must be certified by a physician, nurse or social worker. Participants will be able to check out up to two items at a time. Applications are available at all Denton Public Library locations and at www.dentonlibrary.com.

The Denton Public Library’s Homebound Library Service program is made possible through a Special Project Grant in the amount of $75,000 awarded to the North Texas Library Partners by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

Customer Satisfaction Survey

The Denton Public Library cares about its customers and, to ensure that their needs are met, has launched an ongoing customer satisfaction survey. This online survey covers all aspects of library services including customer service, facilities, collections, computer services and children’s services.

“Customers are the library’s first priority,” said Eva Poole, Director of Libraries.  “When our customers complete the survey questionnaire, they provide an opportunity for library staff to understand service through their lens and help us make decisions that support successful customer interactions.”

The survey was designed by Counting Opinions, a company that specializes in measuring customer satisfaction and performance in libraries.

To access the Denton Public Library customer satisfaction survey, please visit www.dentonlibrary.com and click the Customer Satisfaction Survey link in the menu on the left side of the page. The survey is also accessible from the Denton Public Library catalog at all library locations.

Need Help With Your Job Skills?

The Texas Workskills Development in Libraries project better known as TWDL (pronounced ‘Twiddle’) has begun. TWDL was created to help Texas residents obtain information and learn better ways to look for a job as well as providing ways to improve their job skills. The project supports Texas library staff, management and volunteers in gathering 21st Century job training resources that can be easily accessed and offered to all Texans.

Information about resume writing, interviewing strategies, and job searching can be found by either visiting the Denton Public Library or the TWDL web site, http://www.twdl.org. In addition to information, another highlight of http://www.twdl.org is the links to self-paced tutorials, lists of agencies offering free training by region and much more. Created for Texas residents and library staff, http://www.twdl.org allows all to access this valuable information 24/7.

“The public library has always been known as a resource for providing quality information, and now during these economically stressful times,  we wanted to provide work skill information that will help people become employed or improve their skills,” said Wylaina Hildreth, Senior Librarian. So, we invite one and all to come into the library or visit http://www.twdl.org as part of their job search or work skill improvement.

Texas Workskills Development in Libraries is a cooperative effort by the Big Country Library System, Houston Area Library System, North Texas Library Partners, Northeast Texas Library System, Texas Trans-Pecos Library System, and West Texas Library System.

Access ConsumerReports.org Through the DPL

Denton Public Library is happy to provide access to ConsumerReports.org through their website. They offer independent ratings and recommendations on many products and services, including food, finance, cars, electronics, and appliances.

The resource, which is provided through EBSCO, accepts no outside advertising, making it an unbiased source for reviews and honest recommendations. Their publisher, Consumers Union, started in 1936 as a resource to help consumers overwhelmed by advertising find good products and cut through hype.

“In this economy, it’s important to do your homework!” says Director of Libraries Eva Poole. “Helping our customers get information about their purchases, banking, and shopping strategies is important to us.” Also included on the site is information about consumer protection, child-safety recalls, health news, product ratings, and email newsletters.

For more information on this new resource, visit the Denton Public Library, call 940.349.8752 or see the library’s Web site at www.dentonlibrary.com.
