Fold old (or new) paperback books in various shapes and place them onto a hanging lamp cord. Demonstration of folding techniques will be followed by, well, lots of folding. Paperback books, lamp cord, and ceiling hook will be provided. You may bring your own books if you like, but because of the weight it is recommended that you use paperbacks.

Creating paste paper is one of the earliest methods used to decorate paper. This method has been in use since the late 16th century, primarily as book covers and endsheets. The designs can range from simple to complex. A paste is made and mixed with paint and can then be manipulated with hand tools or writing implements.
On July 13, from 10 am to noon, a creating paste paper class will be held at the North Branch Library, 3020 North Locust Street. Participants will be shown numerous application techniques and will be free to experiment on their own. All supplies are provided. Paste paper is a unique method dating back to the late 16th century for decorating paper. A paste is made and then mixed with paint. Designs can be made by brushing the colored paste onto a damp piece of paper and then a number of techniques can be used to make images. The papers were originally used to make book covers or endsheets, but can also be used for making cards, collage, and calligraphy.
