Dress Code:
This is a family friendly event and as such there are procedures regarding dress code. These apply to regular clothing as well as costumes. Denton Public Library staff will have the final say on determining whether or not your costume is appropriate. If your costume is deemed inappropriate, you will be asked to change. Failure to comply will result in you being asked to leave the property of the North Branch Library.
No costume should be larger than 6’6” tall or 2’10” wide. You must be able to fit through the doors for safety reasons.
Your costume must be at least the equivalent of shorts and a sleeveless T-Shirt (men and women). If you have a skirt or kilt you must be able to bend over without your undergarments showing. All attendees must wear shoes.
Your costume may not contain any inappropriate images.
Props and weapons:
Prop weapons may be carried during the event. These are homemade or commercially rendered costume props that support the look of a costume or character. All weapons or other props will be checked when you enter to determine if they are safe.
Any weapon/props that are determined to be unsafe will not be allowed. You can either take them home or we will hold them for you in the staff area for the remainder of the day. You will receive a ticket to pick up your item when you are ready to leave.
No real weapons are allowed. Realistic/toy guns will be allowed as long as they are clearly marked with orange on the barrel.
Due to potential damage to property, filled water guns, bubble guns, silly string and the like are prohibited.
If you have any questions about the dress code please contact the North Branch assistant manager, Wylaina Polk at 940-349-8774
International Games Day @ the Denton Public Library
The Denton Public Library will join hundreds of libraries throughout the country and the world on November 3, 2012, for the fifth annual celebration of gaming in libraries – International Games Day @ your library. Like so many other libraries across the country and around the world, the North Branch of the Denton Public Library, 3020 N. Locust St.will offer special gaming programs and events suitable for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Libraries are becoming family destinations, and are continuously offering new formats
and innovative programs and services that educate, entertain and expand interaction with
their users,” said Kimberly Wells, North Branch Library Manager. “Gaming is yet
another example of how libraries are becoming more than just educational resources for
the communities that they serve. They are also places where users of all ages are
welcome to have fun together.”
The Denton High School Chess Club and Dr. Alexey Root, author of many books on learning through chess, will be on hand to teach and facilitate game play. The video gaming events sponsored by A-Kon, will include two popular Wii game tournaments, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart. Various local game companies and Madness Comics will be on hand to demo various card and role playing games, and Reaper Miniatures will offer miniature paint and takes.
This family centered program is offered free of charge.

Smash Bros. Brawl Tourney Winners
Thanks to all who came and participated in the first ever Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament at the North Branch of the Denton Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 24th. We had hundreds of people pop in to check out the BRAWL madness, and nearly 100 people enter the tournament. It was a long tournament, but we finally made it through to the end with the top 3 winners as promised.
All three winners received a trophy plaque from DFWgames and various prizes from the Denton Public Library, to include meal and play certificates donated by Gameworks at the Grapevine Mills Mall, Anime dvds donated by Funimation and various manga titles donated by A-Kon and Madness Comic and Games.
We will have another tournament in the future with players separated by skill level to allow recreational players to battle each other in one bracket, while the more professional gamers battle it out in another.
And now for the winners ( identified by their tournament player names):
