Basic Computer Use Class
Learn the basics of using a computer at the South Branch Library. A class covering such topics as computer components, computer terminology and the Windows XP operating system will be presented May 10. It is for both new computer users and those seeking to reinforce their skills. Participants must be able to use a computer mouse.
The class is about two hours and a half. Class size is limited, so please call to register.

Using a Mouse and a Keyboard
Using a computer mouse and keyboard are essential skills for the novice computer user. Learn to effectively use these important parts of the computer and begin building the skills needed for basic computer use, at the South Branch Library on Wednesday, May 8. This is a very basic computer class, but we will not cover typing.
The class will be about an hour and a half. Class size is limited, so please call to register.

Getting Started With Microsoft PowerPoint
Learn how to create eye-catching slide shows with your computer. A class about the basics of Power Point 2007 will be presented at the South Branch of the Denton Public Library. The class is two sessions, and each session is about an hour and a half.
This class is for people who have never used this slide show program but would like to learn, and people who would like a review of the basics of Power Point. Participants must know how to type, use a mouse, and save and retrieve files in Windows.

Amazon to Kindle Self-Publishing
Wrote a book? Get self-publish on Amazon Kindle. John Irving, self-publisher, will teach you the step by step process of self-publishing on Amazon for the Kindle. The class will be on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at North Branch Library. Participants will learn how to create a kindle merchant account, formatting for the Kindle, selecting searchable keywords and tags and much more. Participants will need to bring a personal laptop computer containing the following items: a fully edited and proofread manuscript, art for the cover, picture of the author, if desired, and bank account and bank routing numbers. There is no charge to attend this class, but registration is requested. Seating is limited. Call (940) 349-8752 to register or for more information.

Working With Word 2007 Class
Learn to use Microsoft Word at the South Branch Library. A two-part class to introduce novice users to the Word 2007 will be presented on January 9 and January 11 at 2 p.m. Those needing a refresher course in the basic functions of the popular word processing program are also welcome to attend. Each session will last about an hour and a half. In order to take the class, students must be familiar with using a mouse and know how to save and retrieve files in Microsoft Windows

Introduction to the Internet Class
The South Branch Library will present a two-part class on the basics of Internet use.
If you are just beginning to use the Internet, or if you would like a refresher, this class is for you.
The class will cover basics such as getting and using an e-mail account, using search engines, finding specific sites on the Internet, and evaluating the reliability of information found on the Internet. The class will also include information about using library resources available on the Internet.

Free Genealogy Databases Class, 12/1/12
The Special Collections Department at the Emily Fowler Library will present a class on using the genealogy databases we subscribe to such as Ancestry.com and Family Search as well as the indexes and local history resources we have available on our homepage. The class will be held Saturday December 1st, 2012 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Fowler Library.
With so much genealogy information being added daily to these and other databases, knowledge of efficient search strategies, techniques, and learning what each has to offer make your research faster and more enjoyable.
