Later this month, the library will offer the chance for area children to see the Library Larry puppets in live shows to take place at each branch of the Denton Public Library. Special guest “Driver Charlie” from the Denton Fire Department will be on hand to talk about what the Fire Department does, to discuss how they respond to emergency calls, and to educate kids on the role of the Fire Department in their community. It’s a great opportunity to see the puppets and talk to a real fire fighter and local hero.
Here are the dates and times for the live shows:
North Branch—Tuesday, June 21st at 4:00
Emily Fowler—Thursday, June 23rd at 4:00
South Branch—Thursday, June 30th at 3:30
Library Larry’s Big Day is an early childhood outreach program that not only encourages early childhood print literacy, it also introduces children to their community and their library in the hopes of creating a whole new generation of civic-minded library users. The show stars three puppets: Library Larry, a Texas bull; Emmy Lou Dickenson, a pig who loves big words; and Mr. Chompers, a very silly hippo. In each episode, a librarian reads a book to the puppets and then they visit a place in the community that relates to the theme of that book. Each episode also features a “mystery word” that is defined throughout the show and in a segment called “Puppet on the Street.”
The program airs at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day on Charter channel 26, Verizon channel 38 and Grande channel 12. Each episode runs for a full month. The June episode follows the puppets as they hop on board the new DCTA A-train coming to Denton this month. The show is also available online at www.librarylarry.com.
