A Linguist’s Approach to Wallace Stevens

The Denton Public Library South Branch, 3228 Teasley Lane, will host Dr. Haj Ross of the University of North Texas, who will lead a discussion of the Wallace Stevens’ poem “Domination of Black.” This session is part of the popular Professor’s Corner series.

“This discussion will examine in great detail a poem which in its printed version has three stanzas, and will present arguments that the poem will move us more forcefully if we learn to see it as having four stanzas in what could be called poetic deep structure, borrowing a notion from transformational grammar.”

Where: South Branch Library, 3228 Teasley Lane in Denton

When: Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 pm

Professor’s Corner presentations are intended for the general public and allow for discussion, so please join us.

New Board Books

Need a book for Baby?  We just got a ton of new board books in at the North Branch!  My personal favorites are by Helen Oxenbury:  Clap Hands, All Fall Down, Say Goodnight, and Tickle, Tickle.  These are medium-sized board books, making it easy for your baby’s still-learning hands to grasp the book and flip through the pages.  Each title has eight pages filled with illustrations of multicultural children engaging in various activities described in short, rhythmic rhymes.    Together, these elements create a book in which infants will surely be engaged.  Beware!  Your baby will demand they be read again and again and again and again and again…
