Books with CDs
Remember back in the day when picture books would come with accompanying cassettes in those plastic hanging bags? The cassettes would follow the story and prompt you to turn the page with an ear-deafening “BEEP.” Well, we still have some of those bags (and some of those cassettes), but you can find many more picture book/cd combos filed with the regular easy picture books. Just look for a white and purple “CD” label on the book’s spine, or do a keyword search in the catalog by typing the following phrase: book/cd.

Fraud! Fraud!
Some Things Never Change (from the Denton County Record and Chronicle, April 22, 1898.
I guess people can recycle scams, like we recycle cans. No, that’s not right. There is nothing new under the sun?
How about some Ogden Nash:

Local Music!
Denton is the proud home to a thriving local music scene. The Denton music scene is merely one of many things that make Denton a truly great place to live! Many musicians from around the country and state move here to join the local creative community. Several articles have been written about the local music scene and its charm. READ ME!
The Denton Public Library carries many independently released recordings by local artists. If you are in a local band or know of one whose music you would like to see in the library collection be sure to let us know!
This month’s feature is “I Ride Horses” by Bryce Isbell.
Be sure to check out this title as well as other local music titles at The Denton Public Library!

Dogs Life
I ran across this while looking through the month of April in the 1888 Wise County Messenger:
“Dogs are not allowed to pick their company. That is why you often see a $75 dog walking with a fifteen-cent man.”

Have you tried Interlibrary Loan yet?
We try to have EVERYTHING you want, but sometimes we miss things!
If you are looking for a certain book and it’s not on our shelves, ask someone at the Reference Desk how to request it through Interlibrary Loan. We will attempt to borrow it on your behalf from another library. Sometimes it’s right down the street at UNT or TWU, sometimes items come from around the world!
Most things are free, so it’s definitely worth a shot.

Lit Imitates Life
I just discovered a new/old series of mysteries about…a librarian! Her stereotypical attributes make her all the more endearing and dare I say - relatable. Her coworkers are easily recognizable as people you know or have known. She has depth of personality with a life outside of the workplace. While Miss Helma Zukas hails from Michigan, Washington State is the setting for all the crime. The books feature real geography and events from the region. They are a very quick and fun read, the perfect antidote for all the things you “must” read.
Try the Miss Zukas series by Jo Dereske. You won’t be sorry!

Shakespeare at South Branch
The Bard himself comes to celebrate National Poetry Month at South Branch Library on April 16 at 7:00 PM. Come and enjoy this reenactment of the life and times of the great Elizabethan playwright.
Oh, and learn to trade Shakespearean insults, too.
