New Year’s Resolution — Get in Shape!
Are you making the same resolution that I’ve made for the past ten years (and never stuck to)? If you are, then you need to check out DPL’s wide selection of fitness dvds and books. Here is just a sampling:
Yoga instructor Peggy Cappy has been around for years, demonstrating how anyone, no matter their condition, can benefit from yoga. Click here to put it on hold!
Tae Bo will wear you out fast, but it burns an insane amount of calories per hour. If you’re in decent shape, it’s a great workout, plus Billy Blanks might be the least annoying fitness instructor ever. Blanks also offers a Boot Camp workouts — some of which are tougher than Tae Bo. Click here to view DPL’s Billy Blanks collection.
Yoga and Tae Bo are great, but we also have a variety of quirky fitness dvds to keep you interested:

Island Girl Dance Fitness Workout for Beginners
Urban Knockout: Self-Defense Exercise Program for Women

DPL’s Guitar Hero Champs
Check out the 1st Place winners of Denton Public Library’s first Guitar Hero Tournament. There were three categories Easy, Medium and Hard. Many teens tried their best to be the best, but our outstanding strummers were Seth, David and Joe. Seth won the easy category with a score of 99%, David busted through the medium contestants with a 100% and Joe stood alone as he sky-rocketed to 98% in the hard category. Congratulations to our champions and to all who tried their hands at our first Guitar Hero Tournament.

Don’t Come to the Library on Christmas Day!
Dear Valued Patrons, We love you all, but please don’t come to the library on December 23rd, 24th and 25th because we will not be there to unlock the library doors. We will be relaxing at home, enjoying the holiday season. Please enjoy the holidays as well. Sincerely, The Denton Public Library.

Kick It Old School On Sesame Street
Do you ever wax nostalgic for the simpler days of your childhood, before the reign of Elmo, Mr. Hooper’s demise, and Gordon’s hair loss? If you understood and answered “yes” to that last sentence, then you might be interested in Sesame Street Old School, a dvd set highlighting the early years of the children’s program that has won more Emmies than any other show in the award’s history (more than 90 at last count).
I highly recommend these for both adults with children and adults without children. Oh, and children might also enjoy these nostalgia-infused dvds.

Sian’s favorite book so far this year
Yup…it’s The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It came out in 2006, but I didn’t read it until this year. Loved it. Fans of 1984, Brave New World, and other apocalyptic/future-questioning books will love it too. –Sian
